€32 million road upgrade launched for 15 Murcia municipalities
Mula and Northwest regions benefit from four-year investment in safety and maintenance
The Region of Murcia is investing €32 million in vital road improvements across 15 municipalities in the Mula and Northwest areas, with work getting underway in 2026. This significant package, announced by the Regional Ministry of Public Works, splits into two tenders designed to enhance road safety and mobility for thousands of local drivers. In the Northwest region, a €12 million contract covers five municipalities: Bullas, Caravaca de la Cruz, Cehegín, Moratalla and Calasparra. It targets 31 roads, encompassing 60km of primary routes, 143km of regional roads, 185km of local roads and 2.3km of crossings. The larger Mula region tender, worth €20 million, serves 10 municipalities including Albudeite, Aledo, Alguazas, Alhama de Murcia, Campos del Río, Librilla, Mula, Pliego, Las Torres de Cotillas and Totana. This includes 43 roads: almost 90km of first-level roads, 74km regional, 195km tertiary and 4km of junctions.
Bids for both contracts are open until 3 February, with a strict four-year execution period and no extensions possible. While price accounts for 40% of evaluation criteria, other key factors include a comprehensive video inventory of roads in the first year (15%) and the proposed team's execution plan (16%). Major construction firms are anticipated to compete for these substantial opportunities.
"These actions will allow us to maintain the best road safety and mobility conditions, acting preventively and continuously on road surfaces, signage, drainage and safety elements," the regional government states. The proactive approach promises smoother, safer travel across these vital networks, benefiting residents and visitors alike in the years ahead.
