The Local Police of Paiporta in Valencia honoured more than 900 police officers from across Spain last Friday December 5, recognising their outstanding work during the emergency response to last year's October 29 DANA catastrophe.

 

Among those recognised were three sub-inspectors and eight officers from the Yecla Local Police, who were decorated individually for their contribution to rescue and relief efforts during the severe weather event.

 

The ceremony was held at El Terrer Football Field in Paiporta and was attended by more than 1,000 people, including members of local police forces, the Guardia Civil, Civil Protection staff and volunteers, as well as 31 mayors and municipal representatives from different parts of the country.

 

The event was presided over by Paiporta Mayor Vicent Ciscar. During the ceremony, a moving tribute was paid to those who lost their lives in the floods, with the laying of a laurel wreath followed by a minute of silence.

 

Two days later, on December 7, the Yecla Local Police received further recognition, this time from the Association of Stewards of the Immaculate Conception, for their collaboration in organising and regulating the use of gunpowder during the town’s Patron Saint Festivities.
