What you can expect to pay at the petrol pumps in Spain this weekend
Diesel prices have hit a new annual low in Spain while petrol isn’t shifting

If you’re planning on heading out somewhere nice over the weekend to take advantage of the glorious weather forecast in most of Spain, there’s both good and (sort of) bad news for drivers needing to fill up the car before hitting the road.
The price of diesel has once again reached a new annual low after breaking a streak of six consecutive drops last week. Meanwhile, according to the EU Petroleum Bulletin, while petrol isn’t enjoying the same decline, the cost is remaining pretty stable.
In the last seven days, the average price per litre of diesel has dipped by another 0.21% to €1.361, low, low figures we haven’t seen since October last year.
Unleaded, meanwhile, has seen a very slight increase (+0.008%) for the third week running, remaining at €1.458.
Overall, fuel prices have fallen by 8.9% for petrol and 9.2% for diesel through mid-October, following a series of consecutive declines in July of last year, right in the middle of the holiday season and with the highest number of commutes of the year. However, the trend changed radically before Christmas, when diesel and unleaded entered a kind of upward spiral that lasted well into 2025.
In any case, the price of diesel remains below the levels prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, when it was around €1.479 per litre. The story with petrol is similar, which today is below the €1.591 per litre it was at before the war in Ukraine.
Furthermore, both fuels remain well below the peaks they reached in the summer of 2022, when unleaded prices reached €2.141 per litre and diesel €2.1 in July.
And both diesel and petrol prices in Spain are still well below the EU and Eurozone averages.
Diesel has now been cheaper than petrol for 118 weeks in a row. This is a return to how things were before the war in Ukraine, which caused diesel prices to stay higher than petrol from August 2022 until mid-February 2023.
