Until September 15 Boat tours of Isla Grosa in the Mediterranean off the coast of La Manga
Discover the historical and ecological importance of the two small rocky outcrops just off the San Javier coastline!
This ecotourism activity is organized by Posidonia Turismo and consists of a boat trip to the small island of Isla Grosa and the rocky islet of Farallón just off the Mediterranean coastline of La Manga del Mar Menor.
These small outcrops are not only of historical significance, they have also been declared birdlife protection zones and are surrounded by meadows of Posidonia Oceanica seagrass. They are temporary homes to bird species including the Andouin’s gull and the cormorant, while in past centuries there are stories of boats used by Berber raiders from northern Africa having fallen foul of the choppy seas around the islands.
Going back even further in time, archaeological remains have been found of Phoenician and Iberian boats, and the one found in the Bajo de la Campana is now on display in the ARQUA national underwater archaeology museum in Cartagena.
The standard price of this tour is 15 euros per head with special rates available for groups of over 20. Online bookings are available here.
Further information is available from Posidonia Turismo on 644 757219.
