Until October 14 Photography and memorabilia exhibition to commemorate the 190th anniversary of San Javier
The municipality of San Javier was awarded independence from Murcia on 9th March 1836
The town of San Javier first came into existence in the 16th century (click here for a history of the area and the municipality) but it was not until 9th March 1836 that the municipality was granted independence from the capital city of the region (the same date as neighbouring San Pedro del Pinatar), and to celebrate the 190th anniversary of the occasion an exhibition entitled “El tiempo pasa, las imágenes quedan” is being held at the local history museum between 2nd and 14th October.
Contained in the display are some 70 photographs contrasting the past with the present, leaving visitors to draw their own conclusions on how the area has changed since the municipality came into being. These images have mostly been donated by local residents and other private collections, including aerial shots as well as more “standard” photos.
For more local events, news and visiting information contact the local tourist office in Santiago de la Ribera (main contact number 661 572285) or go to the home page of San Javier Today.
