Semana Santa en Lorca No hay Color by Carlos García Peñarrubia at the Palacio de Guevara

Without any doubt the best-known and most spectacular events during Easter Week in Lorca are the famed biblical parades, which fill the streets of the city centre with passion, colour and excitement, but alongside them it should not be forgotten that the “other” Semana Santa celebrations also take place in the form of ordered processions featuring religious sculptures representing scenes from the Passion of Christ, among others.

Iti s this aspect of Holy Week which is the subject of a photography exhibition by Carlos García Peñarrubia entitled “Semana Santa en Lorca. No hay color”, featuring images in black and White in stark contrast to the exquisite decorative embroideries of the biblical parades. The exhibition is being held at the Palacio de Guevara in the Baroque Room, and these images are a selection of the thousands taken by local photographer García Peñarrubia since he first began attending the Lorca processions at the age of around 9.

Even if you can’t make it to see the processions in Lorca in person, this exhibition will give you some idea of the events which transpire there every year! Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday de 10.45 to 14.00 and 16.45 to 19.30, Sundays 10.00 to 14.00.
