Águilas Council has taken a big step towards creating a more inclusive tourism experience with the installation of typhological tactile models at several emblematic locations across the town.

 

The initiative forms part of the "Discover Águilas" Tourism Sustainability Plan, which is financed by Next Generation EU European funds under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

 

The project aims to establish an inclusive tourism model that facilitates accessibility for people with visual and motor disabilities, allowing them to fully enjoy the main attractions that Águilas has to offer.

 

Four tactile models have been installed at key sites, providing detailed representations of the castle of San Juan, the Infanta Doña Cristina Auditorium and Congress Palace, the Embarcadero del Hornillo and the Isla del Fraile.

 

The models have been strategically positioned in locations close to the actual landmarks they represent, making them easily accessible to visitors. One such location is the Explanada del Muelle, situated next to the Icarus monument and the access point to Playa de los Cocedores, ensuring that tourists can engage with the tactile representations before or after visiting the sites themselves.

 

Through this initiative, Águilas is positioning itself as an innovative tourist destination that prioritises creating experiences adapted for all groups within society.
