Torre Pacheco opens new bridge on the RM-F51 road for vehicles and pedestrians
The new road and bridge restore a key transport route while construction progresses on the Murcia-Cartagena train line

A new road bridge has been opened in Torre Pacheco as part of ongoing work on the high-speed AVE railway line between Murcia and Cartagena.
According to Adif Alta Velocidad, the company behind the rail construction, the new section of the RM-F51 road replaces a level crossing that was removed to allow construction of the rail line. The route connects the eastern and western parts of the town, where traffic volumes are relatively high.
The road is around 850 metres long and is located to the south of Torre Pacheco. It crosses both the existing Chinchilla-Cartagena conventional railway and the future high-speed line via an overpass. The structure has a 13.2-metre-wide deck, with two traffic lanes of 3.5 metres each and a 1.8-metre-wide footpath on the northern side for pedestrians.
With the new road now open, demolition work is due to begin on the RM-F14 overpass, located just to the north of Torre Pacheco.
Elsewhere on the route, work is continuing in Alhama de Murcia, where a viaduct of around 1.94 kilometres has been structurally completed. The structure has recently undergone load testing, and the next phase will involve installing overhead lines and railway tracks.
The Riquelme-Torre Pacheco section is being funded in part through the European Union’s Next Generation EU programme under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
