The C-101 aircraft monument in Los Alcázares
A testimony to the historical relationship between Los Alcázares and the Spanish air force
The C-101 is the aircraft which for many years was used by the Patrulla Águila aerobatics team of the Spanish air force, the Spanish equivalent of the Red Arrows, and as such was a common sight in the sky over the Mar Menor as its home airfield was in San Javier.
Aviation has been an important driving force behind the growth of Los Alcázares for over 100 years, and the town was chosen as the location for the first seaplane base in Spain in the 1920s, and it is in recognition of these links that a C-101 plane which was formerly used by the Patrulla Águila has been installed at the roundabout where Avenida de la Libertad instersects with Avenida Mariano Ballester.
