Terra Natura Murcia increases its number of species with the arrival of four emus
These animals, originally from Australia, can now be seen at ‘La Granja de Tommy’

Terra Natura Murcia has welcomed four emus, two males and two females, who have already begun to live in ‘La Granja de Tommy’, the recently opened family educational space where 30 animals live together.
Emus originally come from Australia and are distinguished from their close relative the ostrich by their characteristic dark plumage and the size and colour of their eggs, which are large and green.
The four new emus at Terra Natura have adapted very well to the climate of Murcia, say the zookeepers, making the park an ideal place for its development.
With these new additions, Terra Natura Murcia continues to expand its number of species, with the aim of promoting species conservation and raising public awareness of the importance of biodiversity.
The park’s director, Gustavo Martínez, underlined the good progress of the integration of the emus, “which have adapted perfectly to Terra Natura Murcia”.
“Their arrival represents another step forward in our commitment to environmental education. We want every visit to the park to be an opportunity to discover, learn and connect with nature,” he said.
The arrival of the emus comes just three weeks after the birth of five wild white storks at the zoo, the first time nesting storks have hatched their young in the area since 2021.
The Aqua Natura waterpark located right next to the zoo has just opened its doors for the summer season, and combined tickets to visit both attractions are available on the Terra Natura website.
La Granja de Tommy is located next to Terra Natura’s island area, and will be open from 11am to 2.30pm (the park is open from 10am to 7pm).
Tickets can be purchased online in advance on the Terra Natura website, or at the ticket office on the day of your visit.
