Supermarket opening hours in Spain on January 5 and January 6, Three Kings' Day
Final festive feast preparations will need to be done on Monday as most places will close this Tuesday

With Christmas, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day now firmly in the rear-view mirror, Three Kings' Day looms as the final festive occasion across Spain before the routine of 2026 properly kicks in. That means one last rush of gift shopping for the kiddies and meal preparations, and this year you'll need to pay close attention to when your local supermarket is actually open.
January 5, traditionally the day for last-minute panic buying, falls on a Monday in 2026, while Tuesday January 6, Three Kings' Day itself, is a public holiday throughout Spain. Most supermarkets will be firmly shut on the Tuesday, so if you need anything for that final family meal of the Christmas season, Monday is your day.
Here's what you need to know about the major chains before you head out.
Mercadona
Juan Roig's supermarket empire is nothing if not predictable with its opening hours. The chain operates continuously from 9am to 9.30pm Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays and public holidays, with very few exceptions. January 5 and 6 will follow this pattern exactly. All stores will be open on Monday January 5 and firmly closed on Tuesday January 6.
Carrefour
The French chain and its various incarnations, Carrefour Market, Carrefour Express and Carrefour Bio, have different opening hours depending on which store you're visiting and which city you're in.
Generally speaking, stores will open their doors on Monday January 5, with most centres closing on Tuesday January 6. Your best bet is to check Carrefour's opening hours using their store locator to avoid a wasted trip.
Lidl
All Lidl stores will be open this Monday but Tuesday January 6 brings special hours that vary by location. The Lidl supermarket locator lets you check which stores in your area are open on public holidays, so give that a look before you set off.
Aldi
Aldi stores typically run from 9am to 9pm, though this can vary slightly from place to place. Some of the German chain's supermarkets have special opening hours on holidays. On Tuesday January 6, almost all stores will be closed. Visit the Aldi website and use the store locator to check your specific branch.
Alcampo
Following their usual policy on Sundays and holidays, most Alcampo stores will be closed on Tuesday January 6. Monday January 5 should see normal opening hours. The Alcampo store locator will give you the details for your nearest branch.
DIA
The DIA chain has opted to keep a handful of stores open in certain cities on Tuesday January 6, many with reduced hours. The only way to know for certain if your local store is one of them is to use the DIA store locator and check the opening hours.
Hipercor
Hipercor usually operates Monday to Sunday from 9am or 10am until 10pm. However, on Tuesday January 6, Hipercor stores will be closed for the public holiday. Use the Hipercor store locator to check individual store hours.
Ahorramás
Ahorramás supermarkets will be closed on Tuesday January 6, so you'll need to get your shopping done on Monday the 5th. Bear in mind that some stores will have reduced hours even on the Monday. Check Ahorramás opening hours on their website before heading out.
