Sunday January 19 Charity dog walk to Lorca Castle
All funds raised will be donated to animal shelters in Lorca
Attention all dog lovers!
Grab your walking shoes this weekend and bring your furry friend along to the 10th edition of the ‘Dog Route to Lorca Castle’ fundraising event, a fun-filled day of exercise and community spirit to coincide with the festival of San Antón, patron saint of animals.
(To be fair to the Saint, he also shares his love of animals with a variety of other interests, and hence is also the patron of skin diseases, farmers, butchers, basket makers, brush-makers and gravediggers!)
Enjoy a scenic stroll through Lorca on Sunday January 19 followed by an action-packed schedule for all the family aimed at raising awareness about the importance of responsible pet care.
The event begins in the San José park at 9.00, where bibs will be handed out to participants but the real adventure starts at 10.30 when owners and their canine companions set off up the mountain to Lorca Castle.
The schedule for the morning includes the following:
9.00: Number vests are handed out to those taking part in the Parque de San José.
10.30: Walkers leave the Parque de San José and set off up the Hill towards the castle.
11.30: Demonstration by the canine unit of the Policía Local.
13.00: A vote for the nicest, best-behaved and most elegant dogs.
13.30: The blessing of the animals by parish priest Régulo Cayuela.
14.30: A friendly lunch of migas is offered at the Price of 5 euros, to be donated to charity.
There are also three visits being held at the castle for owners with their dogs:
11.00: The archaeological site of the medieval synagogue of Lorca.
12.00: The Torre Alfonsina.
13.00: The Torre Espolón.
A 10-euro fee grants you and your pet access to all three visits!
So mark your calendars, grab your leash, and enjoy a paw-some day out with your loyal companion!
