Storms may bring some local downpours: Alicante weekend weather July 24-27
Turbulent weather into tomorrow morning should give way to pleasant sunshine and gradually rising temperatures this weekend
The storms and rainfall will be at their most widespread around 10pm
State weather agency AEMET has issued a number of warnings for Alicante province for today, July 24 and into tomorrow morning.
There may be some thunder and lightning, and even some locally heavy downpours, while winds could whip up some significant waves along the Costa Blanca.
Alicante weather warnings, Thursday July 24-Friday July 25
The warnings include a 40-70% chance of up to 20mm of rain all over the province, which could fall in a single hour.
These apply to the north coast and interior between 9am and 8pm tomorrow, while for the southern Costa Blanca the warning is from 8pm tonight to 8am tomorrow.
The storm warnings share the same probabilities and times, with the added possibility of some hail inland.
And there is a similar risk of 50-60km/h (force 7) winds along the north and south coast of Alicante province, with waves of up to 3 metres, between 3pm today and 6am tomorrow.
Alicante weather forecast, Thursday July 24
Today’s forecast is for very cloudy skies, with showers and storms on the coast from the morning. It is possible that these may be heavy in localised areas, and they will spread inland in the afternoon, where they could again be quite heavy locally.
There is a significant drop expected in the maximum temperatures, and slightly lower minimums may make it a bit easier to sleep tonight after so many nights over 25ºC.
Maximums and minimums are due to be 31ºC and 22ºC respectively for Orihuela city in the south, 29ºC and 20ºC for Dénia in the north, 31ºC and 23ºC for Alicante city, 31ºC and 22ºC for Elche, and in Alcoy inland, just 24ºC and 17ºC.
The wind on the coast will be moderate from the northeast, with the rest of the province only getting gentle breezes with occasional moderate easterly winds.
Alicante weather forecast, Friday July 25
Skies will still be mostly cloundy around noon on Friday
Once the potentially stormy weather clears tomorrow morning, temperatures are unlikely to reach 30ºC anywhere in the province, peaking at 29ºC in Orihuela, Alicante and Elche, 27ºC in Elche and only 25ºC in Alcoy. The nights should also be even cooler, at just 20ºC in most places, 22ºC in Alicante city and 17ºC in Alcoy.
There will still be some clouds in the afternoon and similar winds to today.
Alicante weather forecast, Saturday July 26
Maximum (red) and minumum (blue) temperatures should be warmer but relatively mild on Saturday
All this should give way to clearer skies and temperatures climbing back up over the weekend, with Orihuela the hottest at 31ºC on Saturday, Dénia 30ºC and the others 29ºC.
The night will remain cooler at 20ºC in Dénia and Alicante, just 18ºC in Orihuela and Elche and 16ºC inland in Alcoy, and winds will be mild, varying from the south and east, with moderate intervals along the coast in the afternoon.
Alicante weather forecast, Sunday July 27
Clear skies and warm sunshine for Sunday afternoon
Sunday will be warmer still, around 30ºC or 31ªC but up to 35ºC in Orihuela city, and minimums of about 19-20ºC.
