September 26 Free dramatized tour of the historic 19th-century buildings in Jumilla

Enjoy this trip back to the time when the wineries of Jumilla first brought prosperity to northern Murcia

In celebration of World Tourism Day, which falls every year on 27^th September, the tourist office of Jumilla in northern Murcia is holding this free dramatized tour in the town centre during which visitors will enjoy a visit to some of the most important and representative buildings of the late 19^th century transformed the social and economic life of the town.

Led by local theatre group La Púa, the tour includes elements of history, local heritage and of course drama, bringing to life an era when the growing interest in locally produced wines grew sharply as the Phylloxera plague wiped out vineyards in much of the rest of Europe.

The tour, which is held in Spanish, begins at 18.30 at the Teatro Vico, one of the most important buildings to appear at this time and a sign of the new-found prosperity of Jumilla 150 years ago, and registration, although it is free of charged, should be made beforehand through the local tourist office (telephone 968 780237).
