September 23 to November 23 Exhibition of documents relating to the medieval Jews in Lorca

"Memoria escrita de la presencia judía en Lorca" at the archaeological museum of Lorca

The numerous events in Lorca which are taking place in September in celebrating European Jewish Culture include the opening on 23^rd September of an exhibition entitled "Memoria escrita de la presencia judía en Lorca", offering a chance to see a range of historical documents reflecting the presence of an important Sephardic Jewish community in the city prior to the completion of the Reconquista in 1492.

This documentary evidence complements the physical remains found at the archaeological site of the synagogue alongside the castle, some of which are on display permanently at the superb museum, and which afford us insights into daily life for Jews in Spain in the early medieval period.

The exhibition runs until 23^rd November and opening hours at the museum are Tuesday to Saturday 10.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 19.00, Sundays 10.00 to 14.00. Admission is free of charge and a visit is highly recommended!
