Residents in several parts of the Region of Murcia were woken by another earthquake in the early hours of Tuesday morning, August 4, just two days after Sunday's stronger tremor was felt across much of the Region.

 

According to Spain's National Geographic Institute (IGN), the earthquake struck at 1.51am with its epicentre near the inland town of Albudeite, around 30 kilometres north-west of Murcia city.

 

It measured 2.5 on the Richter scale and originated at a depth of around three kilometres, making it shallow enough to be noticed in nearby communities.

 

The tremor was felt in a number of municipalities and districts, including Campos del Río, Librilla, Pliego, Villanueva del Río Segura, La Puebla de Mula, Fuente Librilla, Barqueros, La Egesa and Rodeo Primero, according to the IGN.

 

The earthquake was classified as having an intensity of III to IV, meaning it could be felt by some people indoors, although it was not considered strong enough to cause significant damage.

 

No injuries or material damage have been reported.

 

The latest tremor comes just 48 hours after a magnitude 4.1 earthquake shook Murcia on Sunday morning. That quake, which had its epicentre between Librilla and Barqueros, was felt across much of the Region as well as parts of Alicante and Albacete, prompting more than 80 calls to the Region's 112 Emergency Coordination Centre.

 

Despite being felt over a much wider area, no injuries or significant damage were reported.
