Primark plans fresh new look for Cartagena store in €85 million investment push
The retailer’s latest plan will update 11 Spanish stores and bring new openings across Portugal
Primark is giving its Cartagena store a makeover as part of a wider €85 million investment plan across Spain and Portugal. The retailer says the changes are aimed at keeping its shops fresh, modern and easier for customers to enjoy, with Cartagena among 11 Spanish stores set for renovation. The update will include a redesigned layout, improved décor and self-checkout kiosks. Primark says the work is part of its wider strategy of reinvesting in existing stores so shoppers continue to have a better experience when they visit.
In Spain, the company will put €40 million into new and existing stores. Alongside Cartagena, the renovation programme will cover branches in Albacete, Algeciras, Cornellà de Llobregat, Fuengirola, Pamplona, Roquetas de Mar, Santander, Santiago de Compostela, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Zaragoza.
The retailer is also preparing to open a new store in Talavera de la Reina in the coming months, at the Los Alfares Shopping Centre. That will become Primark’s 68th store in Spain and its second in the province of Toledo.
The company is marking 20 years since it opened its first Spanish store in Plenilunio, Madrid. Over that time, Primark has grown steadily and now has 67 stores across the country, making it a familiar name in shopping centres and on high streets nationwide.
Portugal is also a key part of the plan. Primark will invest €45 million there, opening four new stores in Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia, Castelo Branco and Setúbal, while also expanding its popular Forum Coimbra shop. One of the standout projects will be the chain’s first street-level store in Portugal, which will open in the Palladium building on Rua de Santa Catarina, Porto’s main shopping street.
Carlos Inácio, chief executive of Primark Iberia, described the plan as a “historic moment” for the business in the Iberian Peninsula. “This investment reflects our confidence in these markets and our long-term commitment to Spain and Portugal,” he said.
The investment is expected to create more than 300 jobs across the Iberian Peninsula, with roles ranging from retail assistants to management positions.
