This is dedicated to San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of agriculturalists
The little church of Los Belones is dedicated to San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of those working in the agricultural sector. San Isidro is called upon to protect crops and animals, and each year there is a Romería to the local water source in his honour, and the fiestas of Los Belones revolve around his saint’s day.
This became a parish church on 3rd January 1893, gaining parochial independence from the church in Alumbres and leading the way for the later parish churches of La Manga and Cabo de Palos.
The Los Belones church was restored in 1991 and officially blessed by Javier Azagra, the Bishop of Cartagena. The central nave is flanked by two side apses containing beautiful images in the chapels, and the image of the patron saint is housed in the altarpiece behind the cross of the altar itself.
Hours of mass are displayed outside on a board by the front door.
Generally summer hours are:
Monday to Friday 7.30pm
Saturday 7pm Sunday 9am
There is also a mass at the nearby Camping and caravanning La Manga at 7.30pm on a Saturday.
Hours vary in the Winter.
There are other churches nearby in Cabo de Palos, Mar de Cristal, Islas Menores, Playa Honda and on La Manga Club ( English language service) itself.
It is always advisable to check hours of mass if making a special journey as they can change.
Telephone number given in Spring 2014 is 968 145 615.
Mass is in Spanish.
The church is in Calle Mayor, at the far end of the village driving in from the La Manga Club. Click for map: Calle Mayor, Los Belones
