October 5: Run for Parkinson’s disease in Lorca
Event will raise money for local charity ASLEP and raise awareness about the everyday challenges faced by people who live with the condition
Representatives of Lorca Town Hall, the National Police and ASLEP presenting the race
The 46th Guadalentín Games will hold a new edition of the "Run for Parkinson’s" charity race in Lorca on Sunday, October 5, starting at 10am.
The event is in aid of the Asociación Lorquina de Parkinson (ASLEP) and organised by Lorca Town Hall sports department and the National Police, as part of the force’s Ruta Solidaria 091 charity initiative.
It is also the last race in this season of the Lorca local circuit of popular races, which began in November 2024.
The starting and finishing line is in the Plaza de la Policía Nacional by El Gato.
There are various categories for different ages and abilities:
- Carrera Absoluta (Cadetes to Veteranos): a route of about 5.500 metres.
- Petates (toddlers): 60 metros (born in 2020 and afterwards).
- Prebenjamín–Benjamín (Under-8 and Under-10): 630 metres.
- Alevín–Infantil (Under-12 and Under-14): 1,250 metres.
There are also races for people in wheelchairs, and people with visual or hearing impairments, and intellectual disabilities, in order to emphasise the inclusive spirit of the event.
The top three in each category will receive commemorative medals and the top three in the general category (male and female) will also win special prizes.
There will also be recognition for the first three police officers in each category and trophies for the top three in the local circuit of popular races (male and female).
Registration is open until 2pm tomorrow, Thursday, October 2, on the website www.asuspuestos.es for a fee of €6 for the Absoluta category and €3 for children. The Petates category for toddlers is free and they can register on the day.
All the proceeds will go directly to ASLEP and everyone who registers will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
