October 31 Don Juan Tenorio in Lorca
An unusual production is performed at both the Palacio de Guevara and the church of San Francisco
Every year it is a longstanding tradition in Spain for the play “Don Juan Tenorio” to be performed on or around All Saints’ Day on 1st November, making this 1844 work by José Zorrilla by far the most seen drama in the country, but the performances on Saturday 31st October in the city of Lorca promise to be very special ones indeed.
Organized by the Paso Azul and featuring a cast of 54, the production brings the drama involving Don Juan Tenorio, Don Luis Mejía and Doña Inés de Ulloa to various venues along a route through the city centre, including the Palacio de Guevara for the first time as well as the church of San Francisco. There are two performances beginning at 20.00 and 21.00, and tickets (costing 10 euros) can be purchased in the Museo Azul de la Semana Santa (MASS).
