November 29 Balloon rides at the esparto grass fair in Puertos de Santa Bárbara

A day of esparto grass weaving, hiking and country living in the countryside of western Cartagena

The Feria Spartaria event in Los Puertos de Santa Bárbara on Saturday 29th December is a celebration of rural tradition and the sustainable use of natural resources, and features a number of activities including a guided hike, food and drink and even balloon rides with panoramic views of the countryside in the west of the municipality of Cartagena.

The programme for the day includes the following:

10.00: A horse-riding display.

10.30: Guided 12-kilometre hike through the countryside, including volcanic rock outcrops, starting at the Aula de la Naturaleza.

10.45: A family workshop on building a sustainable future.

11.40: Audiovisual presentation of the Proyecto Spartaria initiative.

12.00 to 14.00: Arts and crafts display (weather permitting).

12.15: Live demonstration of esparto grass weaving.

12.30: Aromatic plants and oils workshop.

14.00: A lunch of traditional dishes and local produce.

15.00 to 17.00: Balloon trips (weather permitting).
