November 23 Amateur wine-tasting competition and music in Yecla
The annual event at the municipal auditorium in Yecla takes place shortly before the Fiestas de la Virgen
Early December is a special time of year in Yecla, in the north of December, as the town celebrates its unique annual fiestas in honour of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, known locally as the Virgen del Castillo, and one of the events held shortly beforehand is this amateur wine-tasting contest at the Auditorio Municipal Juan Miguel Benedito Rodríguez in the Plaza Mayor.
The DOP Yecla wines are famed throughout the world and this event begins at 10.30 in the morning in the tasting rooms of the Consejo Regulador of the D.O.P. Yecla, with professional oenologists and wine waiters barred from entering. The only professional involved is the wine specialist Javier López Lorenzo, who directs the proceedings, and the registration price is 5 euros (which a maximum of 30 participants) – registration can be completed online at www.escuadraminerva.com.
In the evening the action moves to the auditorium, where a presentation by Sr López Lorenzo is followed by a musical recital offered by José Antonio Cecilia (piano) and singer Cristina Mira. Admission to the performance is free of charge.
