November 16 Lateen sailing race in Los Alcázares

The lateen boats have been used by fishermen in the Mar Menor for centuries

Admirers of the traditional lateen sailing boats which can still be seen on the usually calm waters of the Mar Menor will not want to miss the action this Sunday 16^th November, when the last leg of the Trofeo Vela Latina 2025 competition is being held off Playa Manzanares and Playa del Espejo at 11.00.

This is the final leg of the competition following previous events at La Manga Norte, San Pedro del Pinatar, Santiago de la Ribera and Los Nietos.

On view will be boats of the kind which has been used in the Mar Menor for centuries, harking back to the times when visitors to the lagoon were few and far between and almost the only signs of human activity were the small agricultural concerns and the distinctive silhouettes of the lateen sails against the sea and the sky.
