November 13 to December 3 Living Stone, a photographic exhibition about traditional sculpture in Lorca

The Molina sisters at Piedra Viva have contributed greatly to the restoration of Lorca’s historical and architectural heritage

Artelor, the association of Lorca artisans, is holding an exhibition entitled “Piedra Viva. Hermanas Molina. La huella del tiempo: Arte en piedra y pintura mural” at the Pósito de Los Panaderos venue in the old centre of the city until 3rd December, with members of the public welcome to visit between 10.00 and 14.00 and from 17.00 to 19.00 every day of the week other than on Sundays and Mondays.

The exhibition shows how sculpture which uses natural stone requires not only artistic vision and skill but also a knowledge of geology, and illustrates the processes followed in order to transform rock into art.

Piedra Viva is a workshop and studio specializing in sculpture and restoration, and has been operating since 1988 under the auspices of sisters Paca and Eulalia Molina Manzanares, who use the “direct sculpture” technique. They have contributed significantly to the recovery of much of Lorca’s historical and architectural heritage, their sister Engracia playing a key role in the restoration side of the business.
