New roundabout construction in Cartagena causes traffic changes on Camino del Sifón
Project aims to improve access to San Cristóbal and Los Dolores neighbourhoods
Starting this week, the Camino del Sifón in Cartagena will see some important changes as work begins on a new roundabout designed to provide better access to the San Cristóbal and Los Dolores neighbourhoods. The Ayuntamiento reported that to carry out this project, a section of the road leading to these residential areas will be closed from today, Tuesday November 4.Importantly, traffic on the main Camino del Sifón road itself, which connects Las Tejeras de Cartagena with Santa Ana, will continue without interruption. However, a specific portion of Pino Canario Street, from its junction with Caserío Buen Retiro Street to Camino XIV del Sifón, will be fully closed to vehicles while the roundabout construction is underway.
Motoring on Camino XIV del Sifón in both directions, from Carretera de Murcia to Carretera RM-F36 and back, will remain unaffected except for possible temporary traffic controls as work progresses.
Additionally, from Wednesday November 5 there will be ongoing work to install a new stretch of bicycle lane that will affect the pedestrian walkway along Avenida Pío XII, from the Quitapellejos bridge to the junction of Calle Real and Tolosa Latour towards Paseo Alfonso XII. While this may impact pedestrians, vehicular traffic is expected to continue normally, with only brief stoppages when construction machinery needs to access the road. Work will be carried out between 8.00am and 1.00pm daily.
Finally, local families should note that the children’s play area in Los Juncos Park will be temporarily closed from Monday until Thursday this week for refurbishment and improvement works.
Residents and visitors are advised to plan accordingly and remain alert to any signage or traffic officers guiding vehicles through the area during this period of road improvements.
