Lidl is set to open a new supermarket in Cartagena’s Mandarache Shopping Centre on Friday February 13, strengthening its presence in the Region of Murcia. The store will offer around 1,500 m² of sales space and more than 1,000 parking spaces, with opening hours from 9.00am to 10.00pm from Monday to Saturday.

 

The Cartagena opening forms part of a wider push across Spain. During February, the German chain plans to launch 12 new supermarkets, backed by a total investment of 87 million euros. According to the company, these new stores will “create almost 270 jobs in seven autonomous communities”, with most of the openings in the Community of Madrid and the Valencian Community, followed by Andalucía, Extremadura, the Region of Murcia, Galicia and the Canary Islands.

 

Together, the new supermarkets will add some 16,000 m² of extra sales area to Lidl’s network, which already has more than 700 outlets in Spain. The retailer highlighted that, in its current financial year from 01/03/2025 to 28/02/2026, it has invested in opening about 50 points of sale nationwide. Around 40 of these are brand new stores, while the rest correspond to refurbishments and extensions of existing branches, aimed at modernising and enlarging its network.

 

For shoppers in Cartagena, the Mandarache store will bring another convenient option for the weekly shop in a busy commercial area of the city.

 

At the nearby Espacio Mediterráneo shopping centre, just a 10-minute drive away, there is a Carrefour supermarket in the Cabezo Beaza Industrial Estate, Cartagena, open from Monday to Saturday between 9.00am and 10.00pm.
