New LED lighting brings a fresh look to the Los Alcázares seafront while cutting energy costs
The 240 new lights will cut the town's energy use by over 46% and save Los Alcázares around €3,200 a year

The seafront in Los Alcázares has a noticeably fresher look these days, with 240 new LED street lights now installed along the promenade, replacing the old lighting system as part of the ongoing renovations of one of the town's most popular areas.
The new lights are expected to cut energy consumption by around 46.2% annually, saving the town approximately €3,200 a year in municipal spending. The new luminaires also meet the standards set out in the Energy Efficiency Regulations for Outdoor Lighting Installations, and the materials used are more resistant to marine corrosion, meaning they should last considerably longer than what they've replaced.
The design has been given a local touch too, with each light incorporating the names of the beaches and the Los Alcázares coat of arms. The system has also been designed to provide more uniform lighting along different sections of the promenade, improving visibility and safety for both pedestrians and drivers.
Mayor Mario Pérez Cervera pointed out that the town continues to update its infrastructure with energy efficiency in mind, particularly in key areas like the waterfront, while the Councillor for Tourism and Beaches, María José Díaz Aragón, highlighted the importance of keeping street furniture in good working order for the benefit of both residents and visitors.
The project has been fully funded by the European Union's Next Generation EU programme under the Spanish Government's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The final batch of lighting fixtures is expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Further improvements are planned for areas like La Concha beach, including shade structures, rest areas and adapted vegetation, all forming part of the Los Alcázares Tourism Strategy 2025-2027, operating under the theme 'The Sea That Connects', which is also backed by European funding.
