New lease of life for the Las Claras restaurant in Los Alcázares
New management will take over the bar-café at Las Claras Cultural Centre this week

The bar-restaurant at the Las Claras del Mar Menor Cultural Centre in Los Alcázares is entering a brand new chapter after the council approved the award of its concession this week.
The decision follows a public tender process carried out by the town council to find a new operator for the municipal venue, which sits at the heart of one of the area’s most important cultural spaces.
Under the terms of the contract, the new management will be responsible for running the bar-cafeteria service for an initial period of two years, with the option to extend for a further two.
Opening hours must run from 8am to 10pm as a minimum, with the new management also required to provide service during events held at the cultural centre. The council has also encouraged the organisation of activities that help bring more life to the venue, including weekend dances and similar community-focused events.
Responsibility for the upkeep of the space will also fall to the successful bidder. This includes maintaining hygiene and sanitation standards, keeping the facilities in good condition, respecting set pricing structures and ensuring a consistent level of customer service.
The contract was awarded based on a combination of price and quality criteria, with the council assessing both the financial offer and proposed improvements to how the service would be delivered. Officials said the aim is to ensure a reliable service that supports the wider use and activity of the cultural centre.
The council also used the opportunity to thank the previous operators, praising their “dedication, commitment and excellent work over the years” before noting they were stepping down for personal reasons.
With a new concession now in place, the town council says the goal is to strengthen the role of Las Claras as a social and cultural meeting point for both residents and visitors in Los Alcázares.
