New IRPF deductions for residents in Murcia from 2025
The new changes aim to promote health, sustainability and support for families and vulnerable groups

A series of new deductions for Personal Income Tax, known in Spanish as the ‘Impuesto sobre la Renta de las Personas Físicas’ (IRPF), will apply from the 2025 tax year in the Region of Murcia, following the publication of Law 3/2025 of July 23 in the Official Gazette.
These changes are part of the regional budget law and reflect the powers granted to autonomous communities under Spain’s financing system for common-regime regions, which also includes a reduction in property transfer tax, making it slightly more attractive for home buyers.
The most notable update is the introduction of several deductions designed to promote environmental sustainability, health and wellbeing and social inclusion. These deductions are applicable to taxpayers in Murcia from January 2025 onwards, so for when you come to do your tax returns in 2026.
These are the new income tax deductions available for Murcia residents this year:
- Electric vehicles and charging infrastructure: To encourage environmentally friendly transport, taxpayers can now deduct up to €7,000 for the purchase of an electric vehicle and up to €4,000 for installing a charging point. These deductions aim to support the transition to cleaner mobility and reduce air pollution.
- Deduction for veterinary expenses: In recognition of the role pets play in household wellbeing, a new deduction has been approved for veterinary services. This is aimed at easing the financial burden of animal healthcare and promoting responsible pet ownership.
- Promoting physical activity and healthy living: A new deduction is available for those who incur expenses related to physical activity. This includes gym memberships, personal training, yoga and Pilates classes, and federation fees. Notably, people over 65 may deduct the full amount spent on these services.
- Support for families and vulnerable groups: Two deductions without income limits have been introduced to assist families. One covers the cost of prescription glasses, contact lenses and cleaning solutions for children under the age of 12. Another applies to expenses related to the treatment and care of individuals affected by rare diseases, recognising the often high cost and complex needs associated with these conditions.
- Investment in the social economy: Residents who contribute to social economy entities, such as cooperatives or social enterprises, can benefit from a deduction of up to €4,000. This measure is intended to encourage participation in businesses that prioritise social responsibility and collective benefit.
- Enhanced support for taxpayers with disabilities and renters: The deduction for taxpayers with disabilities has been increased to €150, and the income threshold for eligibility raised to €40,000. In addition, the same income limit will now apply to people with disabilities and large families claiming deductions for renting their primary residence.
Clarifications and technical updates
In addition, several existing deductions have been clarified or updated to improve their application, including those related to renewable energy installations, work-life balance, home rentals and internet access.
These tax updates form part of Murcia’s broader strategy to improve quality of life and environmental responsibility through its fiscal policies. Residents are encouraged to keep documentation of all eligible expenses and consult a tax adviser to ensure they can fully benefit from the new deductions when filing their 2025 tax return.
