Murcia photo of the month November 2025
Here’s the top image of the month taken by the Los Alcázares Digital Camera Club (LADCC)
‘Abstract’ - now there’s a topic title for amateur photographers to get their teeth into! What is an abstract photo? A photo about nothing in particular, perhaps something a bit random? Far from it, according to the brief given by one of the members who chose this particular topic (this is one of the ways that members are encouraged to participate in the club). The brief stated that the photographers needed to emphasise shapes, colours, patterns and textures, light or movement rather than immediately recognisable subjects.
The avid LADCC members took this month’s photographic competition to an extremely high level. With cameras focused, the results were, once again, an incredible array of interpretations of this topic. Beautifully created photos of lights, shapes, patterns and even some photos of images that members still couldn’t understand, even when they were told what they were!
Many of the photos were of everyday objects but, with the increasing skill of the club’s members, were turned into eye-catching abstract photos. Who would have thought that rain, staircases, bubbles, a CD, a wine glass, or even a toilet roll holder could be turned into stunning abstract photos?
Congratulations go to this month’s winner Gary Hull who, once again, produced the winning photo! It wasn’t a run-away victory by any means with only half a mark separating the top 6 images and, as Gary himself said, his photo was only 4th with a day’s voting left to go! However, his photo entitled “A painted plate” won the competition. Using his Google Pixel 8 Pro camera and some creative lighting underneath a bowl shining through 80 marbles he managed to create the effect of a painted plate image. One had to read his description of the image to realise he had actually used marbles. His winning photo was, of course, considered ‘marbleous’ by the members – get it?!

Gary’s winning photo: “A painted plate”
However, it’s not all about winning. One new member, Marianne Elias, who has been with the club for only a few months had, up until now, not had the confidence to enter the monthly competition. However, with a little cajoling from a few of the members, Marianne put a couple of really interesting photos together for this competition. Her favourite, “Which way?” earned her a superb third place and we are delighted to share this photo as a way of congratulating Marianne on her first competition entry. Her second entry placed well too meaning Marianne came 4th overall this month with her combined score!

3rd placed Marianne’s photo: ‘Which way”
Next month’s competition is ‘Movement and/or action’ and, for the first time, two outings within the same week have been organised to give members the chance for some ‘in-the-field’ training on capturing moving images using the ‘panning’ technique. Watch out for some great shots next month!
This popular club usually meets twice a month, at the Las Claras Centre in Los Alcázares, on the first Tuesday of every month and, often, an outing towards the end of the month, where the group gets together to collectively work on the topic for the monthly competition. With modern day technology we can all keep in contact for training sessions, sharing knowledge etc via ‘group chats’.
We are interested in hearing from anyone who would like to join us when the opportunity arises. You will be put on a waiting list and be contacted when a space becomes available. If you would like more information about the Club please do not hesitate to look at our website,
