Murcia to give €200 to help young people get their driving licence
The regional government is aiming to support over 2,500 young people via the €514,000 initiative

Young people in the Region of Murcia can now apply for financial aid to help them obtain their driving licence, thanks to a new €514,000 initiative launched by the Regional Government.
Published this Monday November 3 in the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia (BORM), the call for applications offers €200 grants to assist with the cost of enrolling at a driving school and paying the fees for the theory test, with the aim of reaching an estimated 2,570 beneficiaries.
It comes at the same time as the Spanish central government is floating an idea to lower the legal driving age from 18 to 17.
Regional president Fernando López Miras announced the €200 measure in a video posted on TikTok, stating that “a driving licence is a necessary tool for young people’s independence and freedom, as well as for finding a job”.
The grants form part of the 2025 Community Budget and deliver on a promise López Miras made during his 2023 regional election campaign.
To receive the €200 aid, applicants must be enrolled in one of the driving schools participating in the programme. Driving schools can join the initiative from this Tuesday 4, and have 20 calendar days to apply. To participate, they must be registered in the Register of Driver Training Centres, have a valid operating licence, and operate at least one centre open to the public in the Region of Murcia.
If the number of grants requested does not reach 2,570, the remaining funds will be redistributed proportionally among the participating driving schools, according to the number of young people included in their applications, up to a maximum of €400 per student. If applications exceed the total number of grants, the available funds will be divided equally among all approved driving schools, in proportion to the number of applicants they include.
This new measure is designed to ease the financial burden of obtaining a driving licence and to promote greater mobility and employment opportunities for young people across the Region.
