Murcia photo of the month September 2025
Here’s the top image of the month taken by the Los Alcázares Digital Camera Club (LADCC)
Despite Spain’s intense heat the intrepid photographers of LADCC were out and about again last month! Entries for this month’s competition were very international, as it turned out, capturing the photographic topic ‘Bridges’.
Photos were taken in six countries around the world and one, created in a light box, represented a make-believe country. Their members certainly get about! The members’ interpretations, despite the relatively straightforward topic title, were very varied and showed considerable photographic talent.
This month’s informal meeting was held once again in Los Alcázares at ‘La Cafetería Sin Nombre’. Thanks to Tamara for welcoming everyone once again! Here, members reviewed the competition entries and learnt the results of the voting.
One member, Richard Townend, scored a double! Richard’s two entries were voted first and second by the group. It is worth noting here that members do not know who took what photo when they are voting, so this makes Richard’s achievement even more commendable.
Richard chose his home county of Yorkshire for his choice of bridges, submitting photos of the picturesque Knaresborough viaduct, opened in 1851, and the more modern Humber Bridge, opened in 1981. Both locations provided Richard with a few photographic problems. He tried taking pictures of the Knaresborough viaduct at river level first but was not satisfied. This athletic photographer then found himself cursing the number of steps as he climbed from the base of the Knaresborough viaduct up to the nearby castle to get his perfect shot!
Similarly, he also explained that he would have liked to have taken a shot of the Humber bridge from the middle of the estuary in order to capture the full 2.2km. This not being possible, Richard settled on taking a shot from the shore but, due to the lighting conditions, found himself travelling across the bridge to take alternative images from the other bank. He eventually submitted an image from the north side as the late afternoon lighting and sky detail were better. He also ensured that he included a couple sitting on the foreshore to emphasise the scale of the structure, which everyone agreed worked well. Well done Richard!

Winning Photo 'Knaresborough Railway Bridge'

Runner-up 'Under the Humber Bridge'
As for fellow photographers, their varied selection included photos from as far afield as China, and closer to home France, Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom and, of course, Spain. The bridge scenes included road, rail, and foot bridges.
Some included people and cars, whilst others tried to get images of just the bridge, and one was taken from the passenger seat of a car actually crossing a bridge! One creative photographer took a much safer route and entered a scene from a local ‘Belen’ (nativity scene). Another photo was created by one of the members using a light box where a Lego person was seen taking a stroll over a Brio bridge in a make-believe country far, far away!! All the members showed creativity and technique in their photos, and much was learnt during the informal meeting discussions.
Next month’s competition is ’Flight’. It will be interesting to see the interpretations of this theme! The club also returns to its regular meeting location at the Las Claras Centre in Los Alcázares, at the beginning of September.
The club usually meets twice a month, at the Las Claras Centre in Los Alcázares, on the first Tuesday of every month and, often, an outing toward the end of the month, where the group gets together to collectively work on the topic for the monthly competition. With modern day technology everyone can keep in contact for training sessions, sharing knowledge etc via ‘group chats’.
They are interested in hearing from anyone who would like to join the club when the opportunity arises. You will be put on a waiting list and be contacted when a space becomes available. If you would like more information about the club, please do not hesitate to look at the website www.ladcc.es or email informationladcc@gmail.com.
