Murcia photo of the month March 2026
Here’s the February image of the month taken by the Los Alcázares Digital Camera Club (LADCC)
This month’s title of ‘At Home’ certainly challenged our members’ skills and imaginations. For new readers to our articles, the monthly theme is a challenging way for our members to stretch their existing photographic skills, or learn new ones. During our monthly meetings the members discuss the images submitted in order to learn about both the positive and negative aspects of the photos, albeit in a friendly and encouraging environment.
This month two entries, with only a marginal difference in their scores, stood out from a wide range of interesting and varied photos. Nearly all the members voted on the 24 images submitted, which showed a range of homely experiences, some atmospheric and relaxing and some showing creativity and hobbies, making it a tough call for the ‘judges’.
I wonder if Eva realised, when she agreed to sit for her friend Julian Pering’s photo, that she would be featuring in the pages of Murcia Today?! Julian’s winning photograph portrayed a happy moment when Eva was relaxing at home and the members thought he managed to capture the brief very well. Chris Brown’s photo of relaxing in front of the TV watching the 6 Nations Rugby on a winter Saturday afternoon came a very close second.

Julian’s winning photograph, entitled ‘Eva’
Julian used some super lighting effects to capture Eva reading and laughing in the most comfortable of armchairs. There was one small light to the left with a reflector to fill in light to the lower right. After several ‘takes’ Eva appeared very relaxed and ‘At home’ and LADCC members appreciated this and voted accordingly.
Second placed Chris’ photo also gave the appearance of being ‘At home’ thanks to some subtle clues to the topic title that enabled members to agree that this too met the brief. However, Chris advised that it was very difficult to get a still image from the TV without distortion and so he transmitted an image from his photo library onto the TV screen, so that the image had intentional blur for his photo. One of the many skills members have learned is ‘depth of field’, where the photographer allows the viewer to focus only on the intended focal point of an image and deliberately blurs other sections and Chris achieved this perfectly. As Chris advised, his photo includes a couple of his ‘likes’, but not ‘necessities’, simply to give the image its ‘At Home’ feel.

Chris’ 2nd place photograph, entitled ‘I can think of nothing better!’
We think you will agree that these images were well worthy of their high scores. We were delighted that one of our newest members, Jean Thomas, took the plunge and entered the competition for the first time. She put forward two good entries in one of the most testing of topic titles and we hope this has encouraged her to enter more often. So now the members are on to their next topic title entitled ‘Opposites’. Trying to get two opposites into a single photo will be another formidable challenge!
This popular camera club usually meets twice a month, at the Las Claras Centre in Los Alcázares, on the first Tuesday of every month and, often, an outing towards the end of the month, where the group gets together to collectively work on the topic for the monthly competition. With modern day technology we can all keep in contact for training sessions, sharing knowledge etc. via ‘group chats’. We are interested in hearing from anyone who would like to join us when the opportunity arises. You will be put on a waiting list and be contacted when a space becomes available. If you would like more information about the Club please do not hesitate to look at our website,
