An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 struck Murcia on Monday December 8 at 6.48pm, which was confirmed by the National Geographic Institute. Its epicentre was located in the El Valle area.

 

Because of its location, the tremor was felt by many even within the city itself despite being relatively weak. The quake lasted approximately ten seconds.

 

The 112 emergency service in the Region of Murcia received more than 60 calls regarding the incident from various points in the municipality, but no human or material damage has been reported, according to sources from the Emergency Coordination Centre.

 

Civil Protection officials have taken the opportunity to remind the public that in the event of an earthquake, it is advisable to have a first-aid kit ready, along with flashlights, bottled water and non-perishable food in case of power outages. They also recommended having a whistle, a battery-powered radio and a fire extinguisher on hand.
