Murcia braced for another 40-degree heatwave this weekend: Weather forecast July 17-20
Take care of yourself and look out for others, especially the elderly or vulnerable, during heatwaves

The weather forecast for this weekend in the Region of Murcia is for an unbroken spell of bright sunshine and temperatures going up to sweltering levels, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
This Thursday July 17 and Friday 18, maximum temperatures are forecast to rise up to 41ºC in some places, mainly in the northeast and centre of Murcia – around Yecla, Molina de Segura and Murcia city.
On the coast, temperatures will average a much more manageable 30-35ºC at the hottest point of the day.
These temperatures will go up over the course of the weekend, though, with places like San Javier and San Pedro getting up to 37-38ºC and Mazarrón 35ºC on Saturday and Sunday.
The maximum windspeeds will not be much more than 20kmh, mainly southerly breezes on the coast, though inland towns such as Cieza and Mula could get occasional gusts as fast as 30kmh on Friday.
Looking ahead to next week, Aemet predicts that the latest heatwave will top out on Monday July 21 before easing off slightly back to normal, mid-30s temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday, when it is forecast to be a bit more overcast.
Faced with extremely high temperatures like these, the best advice is to stay out of the midday sun, only venturing outside once it begins to cool down from around 6.30/7pm, and to of course stay hydrated and use plenty of sun protection.
It is also a good idea to check in regularly on vulnerable or elderly people, especially if they are living alone, to make sure they are coping alright with the heat.
Minimum and maximum temperatures in Murcia this weekend
- Thursday July 17: Min 20ºC; Max 41ºC
- Friday July 18: Min 20ºC; Max 41ºC
- Saturday July 19: Min 18ºC; Max 39ºC
- Sunday July 20: Min 19ºC; Max 40ºC
