Murcia bank holiday opening hours: Which supermarkets and shops will be open on May 1
Full breakdown of opening hours across the Region of Murcia during the May bank holiday weekend

The May bank holiday weekend is almost here in the Region of Murcia, with Friday May 1 marking Labour Day and giving many residents a welcome three-day break.
While the long weekend is good news for time off, it does mean changes to normal shopping routines. Most shops, supermarkets and large retail stores will either close completely or run reduced hours, so anyone planning a shopping trip will need to check ahead.
What’s happening in Murcia shopping centres
Several of Murcia’s main shopping centres will be partially open on May 1, but with limited services.
At Nueva Condomina, Thader, La Noria and Atalayas, only restaurants and cinemas will be open on Labour Day. The retail stores themselves will remain closed.
Shoppers will need to wait until Saturday May 2 for full access again, with an additional opening on Sunday May 3, which is one of the designated trading Sundays.
In Lorca, shops at the Parque Almenara shopping centre will stay closed on both Friday and Sunday, opening only on Saturday as normal, though the food court and cinema will be open on Friday.
Meanwhile, Espacio Mediterráneo in Cartagena and Dos Mares in San Javier will stay fully open across the entire bank holiday weekend, including May 1, as both operate year-round.
High street stores and department shops
Major fashion chains under Inditex, including Zara and Stradivarius, will close on May 1.
They will reopen on Saturday during normal hours and then operate on Sunday with reduced opening times from 12pm to 8pm.
El Corte Inglés in Murcia and Cartagena will also close on Labour Day. It will open as usual on Saturday and then run shorter hours on Sunday from 11am to 9pm.
Supermarket opening times in Murcia
Supermarkets will also see a mix of closures and adjusted hours across the Region.
- Mercadona will close on both May 1 and Sunday May 3, as it doesn’t open on public holidays or Sundays
- Carrefour will be closed on Labour Day, although some smaller city stores may open depending on location, so it’s worth checking individual opening hours
- Carrefour will be open as normal on May 2 and again on Sunday in most locations
- Lidl will close most of its stores on May 1, with opening times varying slightly by branch
- Aldi stores will also largely remain closed on Labour Day, with local opening hours available online
- Consum supermarkets will be closed on May 1 in most cases, although some stores may vary, so checking the store locator is advised
