Mostly dry and sunny this weekend: Spain weather forecast January 9-12
The rain should be confined to northern Spain this weekend with clear, bright skies forecast elsewhere
Average temperatures expected on Saturday
The rain should also clear up in much of the country, paving the way for a settled and sunny weekend.
Thursday January 9
After the passage of a cold front on Wednesday, the weather in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands will be far more pleasant and settled on Thursday. However, persistent rain is expected in the Gulf of Cádiz and Strait areas.
Elsewhere, mostly cloudy skies will prevail with occasional light and scattered showers, primarily in the north, especially in mountainous regions, although this is unlikely to spread to the east of the country. The Canary Islands will also enjoy stable weather with clear to partly cloudy skies.
An orange alert for rough seas has been activated in Cantabria, the Basque Country and Galicia while yellow warnings for high winds and rough seas are in place in Aragon, Asturias, Catalonia, and the Valencian Community.
Daytime temperatures will climb along the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts.
Friday January 10
A new Atlantic front will bring unstable weather to the northwest on Friday with widespread clouds and rain across Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea, which may extend to other northwestern regions and the Pyrenees.
Anticyclonic conditions will dominate in the rest of Spain and the Balearic Islands, bringing low morning clouds in the Atlantic regions, clearing later in the day, and partly cloudy skies along the Mediterranean.
Fog may develop over the southern plateau. The Canary Islands will remain stable with clear to partly cloudy skies.
Temperatures will continue to rise in most parts.
Saturday January 11
The pleasant weather will continue on Saturday thanks to an anticyclone located off the west coast of Spain, although there’s a strong chance of rain in the far north of the country and the Balearic Islands. The snow level will also drop to around 1,200 metres by the end of the day.
Both maximum and minimum temperatures will tend to fall in the far north and will remain unchanged in the rest of the country.
A yellow wind warning has been issued in the Valencian Community.
Sunday January 12
The weather on Sunday will be very similar to the previous day, with rain forecast in the far north and in the Balearic Islands and their surroundings. The snow level will also drop to just 700/800 metres in the northeast of the country.
Both day and night-time temperatures will plummet and the frost will spread, eventually affecting all inland areas to the north and southeast.
