Mosquito spraying in Alhama de Murcia this Saturday June 14
The fumigation will begin during the early hours of Saturday morning

With experts predicting a worse mosquito season than usual, Alhama de Murcia Town Council is stepping up its fight against the irritating insects with another round of intensive fumigation scheduled for this weekend.
The comprehensive treatment will take place during the early hours of Saturday June 14, beginning at 3am across all green spaces and surrounding areas throughout the municipality.
Specialised technical personnel from the contracted service company will conduct the operation using advanced mist spraying equipment. The phytosanitary treatment targets both vegetation and open spaces, designed to significantly reduce the population of various mosquito species that thrive in the area.
For public safety, residents and visitors are strongly advised to avoid the treatment areas while fumigation is in progress. Normal access to all affected zones will resume once the work is completed and equipment has been removed from the sites.
This latest round of fumigation is part of the annual mosquito control plan launched by the Town Council, which began on April 8 and will remain active until December 16, 2025. The campaign is constantly adapted to weather conditions, a determining factor in the emergence of breeding sites.
While municipal fumigation efforts provide significant impact, the fact is that many of the most problematic mosquito breeding sites are actually located on private properties.
Common household breeding sites include stagnant water in flowerpots, clogged gutters, abandoned buckets, storage drums, old tyres, children's toys and decorative fountains. Even small amounts of standing water can become productive mosquito nurseries within days.
The council calls on all residents to take individual responsibility for eliminating these risk factors on their properties. Simple actions like regularly emptying containers, cleaning gutters and ensuring proper drainage can dramatically reduce local mosquito populations.
