More than 100 families in Alhama slash property tax bills with solar panel discount
According to Alhama de Murcia Town Council, households can save more than €700 through green tax incentives

More than 100 families in Alhama de Murcia are already paying less property tax thanks to a generous solar panel incentive introduced by the town hall.
Since the scheme came into force on January 1, 2023, homeowners who install solar panels have been able to claim a 50% reduction on their IBI bill for three consecutive years. The measure was approved in 2022 and is part of the council’s push towards energy self-consumption.
According to figures released by the Urban Planning Department, 115 IBI discounts have been granted so far. The breakdown shows 47 approvals in 2023, 36 in 2024, 17 in 2025 and 15 in 2026, reflecting a steady up-take across the municipality.
As well as this property tax saving, which can mean up to €600 over three years, residents can also benefit from a 90% reduction on the Construction, Installations and Works Tax. In some cases, the total financial benefit per installation can exceed €700.
Antonio José Caja, Councillor for Urban Planning at Alhama de Murcia Town Hall, reminded residents that the deadline to apply for the discount on installations completed in 2025 is Sunday March 1, 2026.
Around 40 applications are still being processed. The councillor explained that the department has been working through a significant backlog of files and has reduced pending cases from more than 1,000 to fewer than 300.
To qualify, applicants must submit an installer’s certificate, proof of registration of the system with Industry and the relevant building permit or declaration filed with the council.
Residents with questions are encouraged to contact the Revenue or Urban Planning departments for guidance before the deadline passes.
The official application form and complete information on the required documentation are available on the municipal website: Application form for IBI tax credit for solar panels.
