A heads-up for Lorca residents and those nearby: expect some familiar loud bangs over the next week as Air Force and Space planes carry out tactical training over the area from this coming Monday until Thursday February 5. These follow the same Tactical Leadership Program from Albacete Air Base we've seen before, with some flights cleared to go supersonic.

 

That means sonic booms could echo across towns when jets break the sound barrier, especially in the afternoons. The Air Force always lets Lorca Ayuntamiento know ahead of time, after past exercises led to a few worried calls mistaking the rumbles for minor earthquakes.

 

Flights run Monday to Friday, 3.30pm to 5.30pm, with military trucks and off-road vehicles stationed around town for a couple of hours daily to support the sessions. While precautions are in place, a noticeable boom or two might still reach the ground. Nothing to worry about, just the sound of pilots honing their skills.
