Since we all discovered the ease and convenience of shopping online and having your weekly shop delivered to your door, there could be no going back to the nuisance of having to go all the way to the supermarket, pile things high in a trolley, lug it all into the car and unload it all by hand when you finally get home.

 

Except, of course, if the supermarket themselves decide to stop delivering to your area, which is exactly what happened in southwest Murcia when Spain’s favourite supermarket chain Mercadona chose to suspend deliveries to several of the resorts and urbanisations in the area, much to the consternation of locals.

 

Now, though, there is reason to celebrate as Mercadona has announced that it will resume home deliveries in the area, including to Mazarrón (postcode 30870), Camposol (postcode 30875), Fuente Álamo (postcode 30320) and Hacienda del Álamo (postcode 30333), as long as you know how to navigate the website.

 

Those who have tried it already say that the trick when visiting www.mercadona.es is, instead of inputting your postcode as requested, to choose to deliver to your location, then drag your cursor down to a nearby location with the same postcode as yours, then change the address manually to your home address.

 

Mercadona have reminded customers that for online shopping deliveries, the service fee is €8.20 and the minimum order amount is €60.

 

If you shop in store and choose to have your purchases delivered to your home, the service fee – which is payable at the checkout via card or cash – is €6.50.

 

“Deliveries are made from the day after your purchase, depending on the availability of delivery slots. You can check the available days and times on the website before confirming your order,” they add.

 

Mercadona recently opened its first ‘Store 9’ supermarket in the Region of Murcia, specifically in Águilas, bringing a new style of shopping with a fresh store layout.

 

Mercadona has also advised that it has a new online store and app service available in some regions, including in Valencia, Barcelona, Madrid and other cities and towns.

 

“Enter your postcode... to find out if we deliver in your area,” they say. “If we don’t deliver there yet, sign up and we’ll notify you when we do!”
