May 2 to 4 SPLASH-IN air show in Los Alcázares
The SPLASH-IN 2025 event features historic seaplanes flown by international pilots
It has been confirmed that Los Alcázares is once again holding a seaplane airshow during the first week of May this year, celebrating the importance of the town as one of the pioneers in the field of hydro-aviation in Spain.
It was as long ago as 1921 that the first Spanish military seaplane base was established here, taking advantage of the calm water of the Mar Menor, and that heritage is one which the authorities are proud of and keen to make the most of. In fact, guided tours of the old base are still held, and prove a popular attraction among both locals and visitors.
This year’s “SPLASH-IN” festival is actually being held at 2 venues, starting between April 30 and May 2 in Pollença in Mallorca before the planes and their pilots fly to Los Alcázares for two more days of exhibitions, displays, history and competition. Among those already confirmed to be taking part are flyers from Spain, Switzerland, Italy and Germany, and others are expected to join the festival.
In terms of aircraft, two of the largest present will be a Donisilestar and a Tuaila No, which are bound to be one of the major attractions both for aviation buffs and for less informed members of the public. Similarly, another big draw will be the Copa Schneider SIGLO XXI competition, in which pilots show off their ability and precision over a course without the aid of GPS or modern technology.
