May 16-September 1 Treasures of Ancient Egypt exhibition in Lorca
Visit the Semana Santa Museum to see beautiful recreations of Egyptian costumes, chariots and more
Lorca is no stranger to the culture of Ancient Egypt. In its famous Holy Week parades at Easter, you can see people dressed as Pharaoh Ramses II and his wife the beautiful Nefertari, and the famous Cleopatra.
For this reason, the Brotherhood of Labradores, Paso Azul de Lorca, has decided to organise a new temporary exhibition which shows off recreations of Ancient Egyptian clothing, jewellery and artefacts.
The exhibition, with the Spanish name ‘Nuestros tesoros de Egipto’, puts on display the crowns worn by Cleopatra and Meiamén, as well as precious works of goldsmithery and jewellery that can be seen at close quarters. In addition, the exhibition will house two Egyptian chariots, various Egyptian costumes and other pieces from the parades like spears, shields, feather fans and batons.
The inauguration of the Our Teasures of Egypt exhibition will take place on Thursday 16 May at 7.30pm.
The Councillor for Tourism, Santiago Parra, who attended the presentation of these activities together with the president of the Brotherhood of Labradors, Paso Azul, Miguel Ángel Peña, said, “This exhibition will be a great boost for tourism in the city, as it can be visited during the Night of the Museums and also during the summer, which will be an important tourist and cultural attraction for tourists during the summer season. The combination of Treasures of Egypt and Our Treasures of Egypt will offer tourists a unique experience, thus boosting tourism and contributing to the economic development of the city.”
