Matavendimia wine festival a great success in Jumilla!

Over 5,000 visitors on the Saturday alone including various from northern Europe and the UK!

Despite the arrival of light rain on Sunday the 4^th edition of the weekend’s Matavendimia celebrations in Jumilla, where they are held to celebrate the end of the normal grape-picking season, were extremely well-attended, continuing the growth of this relatively new addition to the local calendar.

Over 40 workshops and activities were held, related to history, local gastronomy, culture, music and above all wine, due to the efforts of the Town Halls and the participating wineries (see details of those affiliated to the Jumilla Wine Route here), and among the most popular as the guided tour of the old town centre and the climb up to the castle.

On the Saturday alone more than 5,000 people attended the fair on Paseo Poeta Lorenzo Guardiola, many of them locals but with a sprinkling of international visitors from countries including Sweden, Germany, the UK and Belgium. If the images accompanying this article are anything to go by then there are likely to be far more next year!
