March 10 to April 12 Siempre la Esperanza exhibition in Jumilla
Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza has featured in the Semana Santa processions of Jumilla since the year 2000
The annual Easter Week processions are being prepared once again in Jumilla, where the event has been awarded International Tourist Interest status on account of its long history, deep-rooted traditions and the fervour with which the locals participate, and this year marks the 25th anniversary of the incorporation of the carved figure of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza into the Procession of the Penitents, which takes place every year on the Tuesday of Easter Week.
To celebrate this occasion an exhibition entitled "Siempre la Esperanza, Incienso & Silencio" is being held at the “Jerónimo Molina” Natural Science and Ethnography Museum until 12th April, featuring large-format photographs depicting the 26 years which have elapsed since the figure’s first appearance. The local photographers whose work is featured are Antonio Jesús Bleda Mulero, María Victoria Gómez Criado, Francisco Lozano Jiménez, José Luis Miñano Sánchez and José Poveda Muñoz.
The most important aspects shown in the images are the look of the Virgin, her symbolic anchor, the wonderful array of colours in the different clothing with which she is bedecked during the year.
The exhibition can be visited at the Ethnographic Museum from Tuesday to Saturday between 10.00 and 14.00 and from 17.00 to 20.00 and on Sundays from 11.00 to 14.00.
