Los Alcázares launches first-ever Easter beach lifeguard service
Rescue workers and jet skis will be deployed on two Los Alcázares beaches from March 28 to April 6

Los Alcázares is breaking with tradition by deploying lifeguards during Holy Week for the first time ever, in response to growing numbers of visitors outside the summer season.
The town council has agreed to staff two of its beaches with a full rescue operation from 28 March 28 to April 6, covering the busy Easter period. The service will run from 11am to 5pm at Las Palmeras (Lima 3) and Manzanares (Lima 5) beaches.
The team will include four lifeguards, a captain, a coordinator and a jet ski, along with dynamic patrol routes. The Municipal Emergency Service may also deploy its own vessel if needed.
The decision came during a meeting of the Beach Management Body this week, where various departments coordinated their plans for the 2026 season. Officials also discussed relocating one lifeguard station to improve visibility, following technical recommendations from emergency services, and agreed that all first aid stations and watch chairs should carry annual certification.
Other improvements planned for this year include accessible footbaths with built-in showers, sand stockpiling and restoring the beach communication network, which is currently out of service.
Tourism and Beaches councillor María José Díaz stressed that beach management is a year-round operation.
"The work on our beaches doesn't begin in summer nor end in September," she said.
"There is constant coordination between departments throughout the year to plan, review, maintain and improve the coastline well in advance."
She added that the Holy Week lifeguard service represents another step in tackling the town's seasonal tourism patterns.
"More and more people are enjoying the coastline outside of peak season, and it is our obligation to adapt our services to this reality."
