Los Alcázares community raises €3,200 for local charities at Albatros Residencial Caldero
Local businesses and residents came together to support MABS, LIPS, seahorse conservation and children's Christmas campaign
When the annual Día del Caldero on Los Alcázares beaches was cancelled due to flood damage, residents of Albatros Residencial refused to let the spirit of community fundraising be washed away. Instead, they brought the celebration home, hosting their popular Caldero event within the grounds of Albatros on Sunday October 12.
The gathering proved to be the highlight of the community's fundraising year, with 99 attendees, including owners, family and friends, coming together to raise an impressive €3,200 for four local good causes.
Despite the last-minute change of venue, the day was a resounding success, and everyone dug deep to support charities making a real difference in the local area.
The beneficiaries were chosen by Albatros owners, with the only requirement being that each charity or good cause had to have a local presence and make a tangible impact on the community.
This year's generous total of €3,200 is in addition to the €2,165 raised in 2023 and €1,146 the year before.
The funds will be split equally between four worthy recipients: MABS cancer support, the Los Alcázares 'No Child Without a Toy' Christmas campaign, Asociación Hippocampus seahorse conservation in the Mar Menor and LIPS Rescue dog shelter.
Cheques have already been presented to MABS and LIPS, whilst Asociación Hippocampus will formally receive their €800 donation shortly. Representatives of the 'No Child Without a Toy' campaign will be presented with toys to the value of €800 in December.However, Gary, a proud member of the Los Alcázares Digital Camera Club (LADCC) and president of one of the local urbanisations, was keen to emphasise that the real stars of the fundraising effort were the amazing local businesses who, for the third consecutive year, donated cash and prizes for the raffle.
