Lorca's roads battered by rains are getting a swift fix
Ayuntamiento commits €80,000 to pothole repairs, debris clearance and resurfacing in rural districts
Recent heavy rains have damaged roads across Lorca, but the Ayuntamiento is addressing the issues promptly. Councillor for Rural Districts Ángel Meca confirmed on Monday January 12 that repairs to affected roads, highways and river crossings will total around €80,000. The work includes clearing debris and sediment, with a particular focus on the southern part of the municipality.Patching to repair potholes and sinkholes began last Wednesday throughout the area, at a cost of €43,000. These efforts will continue through January to ensure rural roads are safe and accessible. Teams have also carried out repairs at crossings over dry riverbeds in Garrobillo, La Escucha and Torrecilla. Meca stated that "from the outset, we have acted swiftly to remove debris and address the most damaged areas, always prioritizing the safety of residents and access to our outlying villages."
In addition to rain-related repairs, the Rural and District Works Plan supports further improvements. In La Escucha, resurfacing has started on a 350-metre stretch of the La Escarihuela slope (€17,200) and a 250-metre section of the Galera road (€13,160). In El Campillo, the Camino de la Cruz paving will be repaired for €12,000. "These works demonstrate the City Council's firm commitment to the outlying districts, not only by addressing emergency situations such as those caused by the rains, but also by making progress in the continuous improvement of the infrastructure and services that our residents demand," Meca explained.Residents can help by reporting road damage via WhatsApp at 639 156 234 or email to bir@lorca.es, including the precise location and a photograph if possible. Meca also thanked local representatives, describing those as "who do invaluable work within the district. They are the most immediate eyes and ears during periods of heavy rainfall." These measures aim to maintain safe access for all of Lorca's communities.
