Alhama de Murcia is marking International Pride Day 2026 on June 28 with a programme of events aimed at promoting visibility, equality and awareness of the LGBTIQ+ community.

 

The celebrations began on Tuesday June 16 with an institutional event entitled “LGBTIQ+ Pride”. As part of the initiative, a banner was displayed from the balcony of the Casa Amarilla to commemorate International Pride Day and show support for the community.

 

The programme continues on Monday June 22 with a talk in Spanish on “The stigmatisation of the LGBTIQ+ community due to HIV in Spain”. The event will take place at the Vivero de Empresas para Mujeres women’s business centre at 7pm and will explore the challenges and misconceptions that still surround HIV and its impact on the LGBTIQ+ community.

 

One of the highlights of the week will take place on Wednesday June 24 with the musical “Orgullo en alhAMA”, featuring Lolita Versace. The performance will be held at Los Olmos Café from 6pm and promises an entertaining celebration of Pride and diversity.

 

Activities will conclude on Friday June 26 in Plaza de las Américas. From 7pm, an LGBTIQ+ Awareness and Outreach Point, along with fun, family-friendly workshops, will offer information and activities focused on celebrating the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community.

 

The week’s events will culminate with the reading of the Pride Day Manifesto at 9.15pm in the same square.

 

The programme has been organised by the Department for Equality of Alhama de Murcia Town Council as part of its commitment to promoting respect, inclusion and equal rights for all.
