June 22 Free guided walk on the Tres Bahías Blue Trail in Aguilas
A 2-and-a-half-hour walk on the environmentally friendly route along the seafront of Águilas town centre
The network of “Senderos Azules” is an initiative promoted in Spain by ADEAC, the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education, to recognize and promote sustainable and environmentally friendly walking paths, this contributing to the enjoyment and preservation of nature and ethnographic heritage.
The “Tres Bahías” (Three Bays) route in Águilas has been named as one of these routes, and this guided walk on Sunday 22nd June along the second section of the route begins at 9.00 at the monument to Icarus next to the fishing port. It is classified as being of only moderate difficulty and is expected to last approximately 2 and a half hours including the return from the castle to the starting point (on this return leg there are no stops for explanations).
Along the way, participants will see the port and the lighthouse, the fish market, the monuments to Icarus and the famed Carnival of Águilas, the monument to the Railways, the headland of El Pico de La Aguilica, the CIMAR maritime museum, the beach of Los Cocedores del Hornillo (where esparto grass was dried in the past before being woven into shoes, baskets and other products), the iconic loading jetty of El Hornillo and the surrounding area, which is one of outstanding and spectacular beauty.
The tour is free of charge but online registration is required here. Naturally, appropriate walking footwear, sun cream and plenty of drinking water are strongly recommended.
For more local events, news and visiting information contact the tourist office of Águilas or go to the home page of Águilas Today.
